Vintage National Cash Register Serial Numbers
Putting Redzilla to work! This is not so much a restoration (replacing missing pieces, repairs, etc.
- although there is enough of that) as much as it is a deep cleaning (dentist talk!). This register was originally made in 1902 (according to the first serial number under the drawer) and then reconditioned at NCR's factory (and a 'new' serial number beginning with an 'S' was added - as well as another label to the bottom of the drawer) around 1907 according to the 'new' serial number. So the register is about 112 or so years old. Everything on the register works (all keys, signs, bells, drawer, keys/locks, counters, etc.), but as you can see there is no shortage of 'aging' that needs a good cleaning.
I thought I put a video up on the marble coin top that was unfortunately broken in two places due to shipping. Such a shame. But I'll post what I did to remedy that. So this 'series' will be me taking things apart, blasting them in Redzilla to the degree I'm happy with, buffing the pieces and then applying lacquer in order to preserve the luster as well as keep the oil from fingerprints/touching tarnishing the finish.
