Bass Pro Shops Xps Battery Charger Manual
Andecy Andrew York Pdf Manual more. I recently bought a Bass Pro Shops XPS I-series 5/5/5 3-bank charger and semi-installed it in my boat. I have three batteries, two wired in series to run the 24v trolling motor and one battery running everything else in a 12v system. The instructions say.' Always connect each charger output to a single 12V battery even if the batteries are wired in series for 24V or 36V.'
So I am pretty sure I have it installed correctly since there are three banks and three batteries, it's not rocket science. The question is.how hot should it get?
When I finally plugged it in, within an hour or so it was too hot to touch for more than a second and it stayed that way for the entire 12 hours it took to fully charge the very drained batteries. I also left it plugged in and hooked up after the batteries were charged as per the instructions that also clearly state that you should leave the charger plugged in and connected if possible to condition and maintain the charge. The charger stays hot durring this maintenance period as well which leads me to believe it will always be hot when plugged in and connected to the batteries. Is this normal? I've read some posts where people claim their chargers hardly get warm. I'm a bit nervous about leaving this thing on indefinetly next to the gas tank. Just wanted to get some feedback before I drill holes and mount it permanently to the boat.

Also made in the U.S.A. In Tennesse vs. The Bass Pro China made POS. I have the same exact battery configuration as you being 2 bats for 24v and 1 for 12v.
I have the 3 bank Minn Kota charger MK-315. I admit I was shocked when I ran it and expected at least SOME heat. The first day, I literally checked it almost hourly for the first 8 hours (Batteries were drained a bit from two days of fishing); then followed up the next day every 4 hours or so, to finally touching it every few days. By no means has this ever felt a semblance of hot, or even very warm for that matter.
At all times it was never but a hint of warm. I wish I could come up with a comparison, and for what it is worth the heat is much less than that of a 19”LCD computer monitor. If you are interested; maybe I can take a thermometer of sorts and put it on as to measure No problem placing a hand and keeping it on for hours if one was board You can also see when it changes from charge to maintenance mode per the LED’s. I do leave it connected all the time per the manual and Minn Kota Support. I still check for heat on occasion for both the batteries and also the charger with no problems. I have had manual chargers in the past that have boiled batteries, so I can tell the difference since I know better what to look for now, and all appears well. I guess another year will really help me, but for the last 3 months, this thing has run perfectly and I don’t know how I ever lived without one When looking at chargers early on, I did look at the Bass Pro, as well as some other high end systems.
In the end I chose Minn Kota because of the name and that I feel their engineering had to be good in this area. It helped that the price was not that of the high end side either. There are higher amperage Min Kota 3-bank chargers for faster charge time; but this unit claims 10-12 hours and my batts at least when checked never took that long. I figure the only time I need to charge is overnight, so 10 hours on a dead battery is fine for me. At this juncture; I have never ran out of battery in one day and always find a hotel, cabin or dock with power for the night charging This one is also waterproof and what a tank.
It is heavy and appears to be very solid/well built. Thus far I am extremely happy with it and as long as it continues to perform, will never buy another brand. My loyalty has thus far been earned I would also assume higher amperage means higher heat. I did not look at your model to see, but from your “12 hour” remark, it appears to have the same claimed charge time as mine, so it can’t be that high in terms of amps Let me know if you have any questions about it. So I have the MK-315 now and I attached it to the batteries and plugged it in last night at 7pm. The charger is still charging as I type this 18.5 hours later. I would have expected it to be done when I got up this morning.
And on top of this, it's pretty hot. Not hot like the BPS charger, but pretty hot. I can put my hand on it, but it gets uncomfortable to leave it there. The heat sincs are the hottest part. I'm a bit confused. The heat isn't really bad enough to worry about, but 18+ hours and still charging?
